Established in 1967 as Margaret River's founding wine estate, Vasse Felix has been at the forefront of modern Margaret River Chardonnay for decades under the guidance of Chief Winemaker Virginia Willcock. The "Filius" (meaning "son of" in Latin) represents the accessible yet sophisticated expression of their house style, crafted from fruit grown in their warmer Carbunup vineyard sites with wild yeast fermentation and minimal intervention winemaking. This wine embodies the elegant, restrained approach that has inspired a paradigm-shift in Australian Chardonnay-making.
Tasting Notes
Bright pale straw color with an open, fragrant perfume reminiscent of apple pie, delicate spice, and milk arrowroot biscuits. Perfectly ripe notes of lemon, peach, and mango mingle with light pear and a hint of white pepper on the palate. A comfortable mouthfeel with fleshy softness, fruit sweetness and full body is tempered by a beautiful fresh acid crunch toward the finish. The wine displays an almost mango-like texture with a tangy twist, fused with slightly undercooked pie crust nuances and subtle gunflint minerality.
Pairs With
Seared scallops, creamy pasta dishes, roasted chicken, fresh seafood
