Terroir Coquerel, Verdelho 2024 Walnut Wash Vineyard, Calistoga, Napa Valley, California

Founded by high school sweethearts Clay and Brenda Cockerell in 2005, Coquerel takes its name from the archaic French derivation of their family name. Under the guidance of French winemaker Christine Barbe, who earned her Ph.D from the Bordeaux Institute of Enology, the estate produces handcrafted wines that marry Napa Valley intensity with French elegance. Their Walnut Wash Vineyard consistently yields remarkable expressions of Verdelho from its unique terroir.

Tasting Notes

The 2024 Coquerel Verdelho displays a medium straw color with an aromatic profile of apple, pear and lime. Expect bright pineapple, lime, and lemon fruit up front, transitioning to decidedly more grapefruit than lemon on the palate, with angular acidity and ample depth. The wine shows complexity with aromas of papaya, a creamy midpalate and a lingering, exotic finish. Previous vintages have shown racy richness with citrus and tropical fruit flavors, accented by juicy acidity and a lovely creaminess to the mouthfeel.
