Founded by Thomas Rivers Brown and Genevieve Marie Welsh in 2002 with fruit from the legendary Summa Vineyard, Rivers-Marie has become a cherished name in California Pinot Noir. Brown looks to Burgundy as a model, picking early when there's good flavor and texture development but before the wines lose focus and site-specificity. These wines showcase the combination of history, ultimate quality and unique character that make for the most distinctive Pinot Noir on the Sonoma Coast - wines of breadth and great intellectual interest.
Tasting Notes
The 2021 features a medium plus color and a flavor profile of pomegranates, ground herbs, plum and black cherry. Magenta-colored, this Sonoma Coast Pinot reveals aromas of candied berries as well as red and black raspberries, with a pleasing lift on the nose. Medium-bodied, it is well-structured, with ripe, fine tannins, great freshness and good acidity, and a lovely, long finish. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and leather are dialed up, with superb depth and textural richness.
