This is the debut vintage from the newly constituted Platt Vineyard, a prestigious West Sonoma Coast estate now owned by France's AXA Millésimes. Founded by Lewis E. Platt (former CEO of Hewlett-Packard), this vineyard has supplied fruit to legendary winemakers like David Ramey and Ted Lemon for nearly two decades. Under winemaker Derek Flegal and consultant Thomas Rivers Brown, they've created a stunning debut that showcases the exceptional terroir just miles from the Pacific Ocean.
Tasting Notes
This magnificent Reserve Chardonnay opens with fragrant notes of honey-drizzled pears, Golden Delicious apples, and spice cake, complemented by tangerine peel, hazelnut, and hints of baker's yeast and sea spray. The medium to full-bodied palate offers fabulously silky texture with incredible tension framing tightly wound orchard fruit and mineral layers. Lemony character with more lushness than the estate bottling reveals creamy, resonant contours that wrap up the plush finish. The wine finishes very long with chalky minerality and tantalizing citrus sparks that reverberate for an eternity.
