From a family whose roots in Montefalco date back to the 1500s, Paolo Bea has become one of the most respected natural wine producers in Italy. The San Valentino cuvée represents Bea's artisanal philosophy - originally a Montefalco Rosso that didn't meet DOC tasting panel approval, it now proudly bears the non-DOC Umbria Rosso designation. This wine embodies the wild, honest character that makes Bea's wines so compelling.
Tasting Notes
The 2019 displays a bouquet reminiscent of Christmas morning, with a burst of black cherries, allspice and clove giving way to dark chocolate and mint. Textures of pure silk lift and energize, with depths of ripe wild berry fruits and stimulating acidity that keeps the palate reeling. Balsamic spice over dried strawberries, moist dark soil tones, crushed stone, and dusty dried florals emerge, while silky textures flood with flavors of sour cherry, tangerine, and savory spice. The finish is long and lightly structured with grippy tannins, yet maintains remarkable freshness throughout.
