Tucked away in the chalky gravel and clay hills of Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, Montepeloso was founded by Swiss-born Fabio Chiarelotto in 1998. Collectors view Montepeloso as the most beautiful, profound and expressive of the Tuscan "new wave." Lupo is an interesting throwback to the way Sangiovese was revealed a few decades ago, made from older clones which yield larger bunches, resulting in a lighter expression than we are accustomed.
Tasting Notes
Crystalline, cherry red in colour, the wine is dominated by notes of wild strawberry and red cherry, white pepper and Mediterranean herbs. Lupo is a fresh, summery wine that shows great tension and minerality on the palate. This is a really pretty and exciting wine. The lighter style showcases the elegance and finesse that Chiarelotto strives to achieve in Suvereto's warm climate.
