Marine Layer, Picpoul, 2024 Sonoma Coast, California

Marine Layer is the collaboration of wine visionary Baron Ziegler and winemaker Rob Fischer, crafting elegant and approachable wines from grapes sourced from some of the best vineyards in the Sonoma Coast region. Winemaker Rob Fischer was immediately intrigued when he learned Three Oaks Farm on Sonoma Mountain had grafted about an acre and a half of Syrah over to Picpoul Blanc in 2022. This rare French varietal offers vibrant, racy character — "picpoul" means "sting the lip" in French.

Picpoul Blanc delivers a vibrant, racy edge with its characteristic "sting the lip" quality. The wine showcases electric acidity and lively pop. Expect a burst of pineapple brightness and saline minerality. This wine lives up to its name as a "lip stinger," but also offers texture and depth.
