Founded in 1921, Maison Foucher is a petit négociant located 30 kilometers northeast of Sancerre in the village of Aligny-Cosne, dedicated to crafting classic Loire Valley expressions at exceptional values. Their 'Le Mont' Sancerre is sourced from parcels around Monts Damnés, perhaps the most famous limestone slope in Sancerre. Hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, this wine is aged on lees for ten months, resulting in a remarkable price-to-quality ratio that displays balance typically found in much more expensive Sancerre wines.
Tasting Notes
Offers a complex bouquet of gooseberry, lime peel, smoke, and fresh-cut grass with stony minerality and bright citrus zest. On the palate, this wine is crisp, full-bodied, and focused with excellent transparency and a long, satisfying finish. The limestone and clay soils of the terroir contribute to its mineral backbone and characteristic Sancerre purity. Clean and refreshing, it represents Sauvignon Blanc in its purest Loire Valley expression.
Food Pairings
Goat cheese from nearby Chavignol, grilled white fish, oysters, herb-crusted chicken
