Founded in 1997 by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne - two restaurant colleagues who pooled their tip money to make their first barrel of Pinot Noir - Kosta Browne has become one of California's most celebrated cult wineries. Their "One-Sixteen" Chardonnay, named after Highway 116 that cuts through Sebastopol, showcases the cool climate mastery that earned the winery Wine Spectator's 2011 Wine of the Year. Crafted from the coolest vineyard sites in Russian River Valley where Pacific fog provides relief from daytime heat, this wine represents the elegant intensity that has made Kosta Browne a benchmark producer.
Tasting Notes
Expressive aromas of preserved lemons, lime zest, flint and river stones rise from the glass. The medium-bodied palate offers bright acidity with a creamy texture, revealing notes of orchard fruit, grapefruit, yellow apples and pastry. Flavors of citrus, honeysuckle, and crème brûlée are beautifully balanced with vivacious acidity and a mineral-driven finish that showcases the wine's terroir-focused character.
