Founded by husband-and-wife team Brian and Stephy Terrizzi, Giornata is dedicated to exploring the potential of Italian varieties in Paso Robles, with Brian's passion for Italian wine stemming from his lifelong love of Italian food and fascination with his Italian heritage. After working with the famous Paolo DeMarchi at Isole e Olena in Tuscany, Brian gained invaluable insight into Italian winemaking traditions. Giornata, meaning "a day's work," focuses on producing classic Italian varietals using traditional Italian winemaking methods adapted to California, with minimal intervention to preserve purity and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
Scented of dark cherry and plum with notes of pipe tobacco, mushrooms, sagebrush, leather and spicy accents that continue to unfurl as it airs in the glass. The full-bodied palate has highly concentrated yet detailed flavors, and its gently chewy tannins add a pleasant touch of rusticity to temper its ripe fruit. The most vivid note of black licorice comes together with crushed raspberries, grilled sage and violet pastille. This mixes soft textures with depths of ripe red and black fruits, gaining tension as a staining of primary concentration takes hold along with fine-grained tannins, casting lavender tones and hints of sweet tobacco over a tart saturation of blackberry and balsamic spice.
Pairs With
Grilled lamb with rosemary, wild boar ragu with pappardelle, aged pecorino and prosciutto, braised short ribs with herbs
