From the family estate now expertly run by Jérôme Janodet following in the footsteps of his father Jacky, this Chénas represents the smallest and most distinctive of Beaujolais's ten crus. The domaine's vineyards sit atop granite schist soils that once lay beneath ancient oak forests, lending this wine its characteristic depth and complexity. Traditional semi-carbonic fermentation and aging in older barrique create a wine that beautifully balances concentration with youthful accessibility.

Tasting Notes

A lush nose reveals violet, plums, earth and crushed concord grapes with floral undertones. The highly mineral palate displays soft tannins and black-cherry fruit dominance, supported by the wine's structured backbone. The finish is beautifully long with excellent density, showing the characteristic earthy and floral character that makes Chénas among the most age-worthy wines of Beaujolais. This is a rich, generous expression that shows wonderful concentration while remaining approachable in its youth.

Food Pairings

Braised short ribs, veal curry, roasted duck breast, aged cheeses
