Domaine des Tours is managed by Emmanuel Reynaud, the legendary fourth-generation vigneron who also owns Château Rayas, one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most revered estates. According to critic Jeb Dunnuck, this home estate "produces beautiful, fresh and elegant efforts that often bear more than a passing resemblance to the more prestigious wines of Rayas." The vineyards are tended organically, manually plowed, and harvested later than most producers, reflecting Emmanuel's patient, traditional approach to winemaking.
Tasting Notes
This Merlot Reserve displays rich aromatics of dark fruits, forest floor, smoke, and sweet spices, with notes of blackberry jam, prune, and cassis. The palate reveals dark, sweet fruit flavors with great tannin structure in Reynaud's signature style—light yet complex, easy to consume yet serious. The wine shows elegant prune and plum notes balanced by refined acidity, creating a great and serious wine with remarkable varietal character. It offers the quintessential expression of highly enjoyable Merlot from the Rhône Valley.
