The story of Château Gilette dates back to 1710, when the Numa Medeville family married Marie Despujols, receiving the estate as a wedding gift from the renowned Lamothe Despujols family, and it has remained in the Médeville family for generations. This unique estate ages wines between 15 and 25 years before release, remaining in tanks for almost 20 years before bottling. The wine never sees oak during its extremely long aging period, creating a pure, distinctive style unlike any other Sauternes.
Tasting Notes
Lively, fresh, bright tropical fruits, tangerine, flowers, honey and marzipan notes blend together perfectly with racy acidity and a honey soaked apricot finish. Fresh, racy, sweet but not overly so, offering honeysuckle, candied orange rind, papaya and overripe apricots on nose and palate. The wine reveals intense aromas of honey, candied apricot, citrus and floral notes, with nuances of beeswax and sweet spices, surprising with its richness and concentration balanced by lively acidity. The wine develops fantastic amber nuances due to its age.
