Conceived, cherished and produced by Baron le Roy de Boiseaumarié, the founding father who was instrumental in establishing the AOC system, this historic cuvée represents the essence of traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The blend dominated by Grenache has remained practically unchanged since its creation and boasts all the treasures and mythical taste of a great Châteauneuf-du-pape wine. Château Fortia is not a winery that chases good press on a whim - these are consistent, classic wines that faithfully represent the region's terroir year after year.
Tasting Notes
Supple and engaging, with steeped cherry and cassis melded with ganache and woodsy savory bass notes. Grilled orange peel–edged acidity brings good energy to the warm, ripe profile, while a refreshing menthol note marks the nicely melded close. Medium ruby red color with bluish reflections. Open and pleasant nose of fresh red fruit jam (raspberry and redcurrant) and notes of sweet liquorice and a slight touch of mint. The palate is full-bodied and generous, with fat and then tension. Nice volume of midpalate. The tannins are dense and fine, chiseled, and carry the wine on the finish.
