From the cool Selztal valley near Mainz, this family-run estate has been crafting wines since 1655. Brothers Stefan and Christian Braunewell aim to produce wines that are "salty and quivering" and "less relaxed" than many Rheinhessen wines. Their work focuses on Pinot Noir from grand cru vineyards including Teufelspfad, Klopp, and Blume.
Tasting Notes
From the Blume vineyard, this Pinot Noir expresses the mineral and fresh side of the variety. Grown on soils characterized by strong tertiary marl with a high proportion of fossil-bearing limestone. The estate produces terroir-typical wines with late, optimal grape ripening from their cool climate. All red wines are naturally fermented in oak, spending 12-18 months on full lees before bottling.
