Altesino pioneered the concept of single-vineyard 'cru' wines in Montalcino with their legendary Montosoli bottling in 1975, forever changing the landscape of this prestigious region. From a steep five-hectare hillside vineyard at 350-400 meters elevation, this wine represents the pinnacle of Brunello craftsmanship. Aged in traditional Slavonian oak casks followed by French barriques, it delivers the elegance and complexity that has made Montosoli one of Tuscany's most coveted expressions.
Tasting Notes
Hauntingly dark with aromas of dried violets, roses, and lavender intertwined with rum-soaked blackberries, baked cherries, and Amarena. Fresh leather, mossy earth, balsamic herbs, and graphite add complexity to the bouquet. The palate is full-bodied yet elegant, with mineral-inflected red berry fruit, plush tannins, and a velvety texture. Black slate and crushed river stone minerality frames the dark fruit core, leading to a long, saturated finish with notes of licorice and stone fruit.
Food Pairings
Osso bucco, beef bourguignon, lamb shank, roasted rabbit
