After six years of enology studies in Nantes, the humble Alexandre Déramé took over his family estate in the gently rolling hills of Mouzillon, one of the most highly regarded wine villages in Muscadet. Working with some of the lowest yields in the region and beginning organic conversion in 2023, Déramé crafts wines that embody the distinctive character of his gabbro and silex soils. This estate represents a new generation of Muscadet producers dedicated to revealing the true complexity and mineral expression of Melon de Bourgogne.
Tasting Notes
White meadow flowers, citrus pith, wet stone and ocean spray greet the nose with remarkable intensity. The palate reveals juicy citrus and orchard fruit balanced by tremendous mineral tension from the volcanic gabbro soils. Natural fermentation adds textural depth, while twelve months on the lees creates a wine that overdoses on minerality and girth. The finish brings touches of ginger, juniper, and smoky minerals with persistent saline notes.
Food Pairings
Briny oysters on the half-shell, pan-roasted mussels, Dover sole with herbs, sautéed green vegetables
